DONKEY MILK THROUGH THE AGES ...

DONKEY MILK'S VIRTUES ARE KNOWN SINCE ANCIENT TIMES

Here are a few examples of its use :

CLEOPATRA VII, Queen of Egypt from 51 to 30 BC ; her legendary charm and her beauty seduced Julius Caesar and then Antony ; and POPPEA, Roman Empress, wife of Emperor Nero (around 65 AC). They both possessed herds of hundreds of donkeys and took daily BATHS IN DONKEY MILK.

Donkey milk was also used as REMEDY (by the ancient Greeks) and considered as a LUXURY DRINK (by the Romans).

HIPPOCRATES (Greek physician 460-377 BC). Regarded as one of the most outstanding figures in medicine, he recommended donkey milk for many deseases (poisoning, joint pains, healing of wounds).

BUFFON (French naturalist 1749-1804) indicates in his “Natural History” : “Donkey milk is a tested and scientific remedy for certain deseases”.

Donkey milk replaced MATERNAL MILK in 19th and 20th centuries. Infants used to suck directly from female donkey’s udder.

Elegant and sophisticated ladies used to pay a high price for this precious beverage.
